Influence of Light Intensity and Quality and Fertilizer on Growth and Leaf Variegation of Codiaeum Variegatum ¢¥ Yellow Jade ¢¥ for Indoor Landscaping

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effect of varied light intensities, light colors and Osmocote on growth and leaf variegation of Codiaeum vnriegatum ¢¥Yellow Jade¢¥. Plant height, fresh and dry weight, leaf width and length, were promoted with increase in light intensities when grown in greenhouse condition. In greenhouse, the plants fed with Osmocote (18:6:12, 1.5g / pot) had greater growth than non-fertilized ones, and this promoted effect by the fertilizer on growth was observed under higher light intensity. Yellow variegated leaves were increased markedly under full-sun light (20,000¡25,000 lux) conditions with the Osmocote fertilized feeding. Plant height, leaf width and length, leaf area, leaf fresh weight and dry weight, and petiole length, were reduced as decreasing light intensity, however, yellow speckled leaf area was increased under full-sun light ranged from 28,000 to 30,000 lux in indoor conditions. Plant growth and presence of leaf variegation were most under cool-white fluorescent light, but poor under blue light. The order of total leaf chlorophyll content was blue, red and cool-white fluorescent light in the decrease.
